"Remember going for Open Water ?  Pretty scary looking back: swatting up for an exam, moving from a heated pool to that first time in a murky lake and not knowing if you were up to it? It was worth it though.   It meant you could start to dive properly and the MSS team were friendly and supportive throughout and helped make things reasonably easy. Well, having completed it today, the Advanced somehow seemed a lot easier- there were knowledge reviews but no test.  Most of the skills you have done already but you learn to stretch them.  It helps that Gildenburgh is also a real dive centre and a lot more civilised than Leybourne.  There was again an excellent MSS team; 4 instructors to 5 of us so it was always going to be very safe and very supportive.  5 fascinating dives ranging from navigating round a sunken bus to seeing a very large pike almost within touching distance - all the skills very do-able and fun.  Quite a few laughs, some fantasies about John's derriere (Mary can explain) and dive-bags bulging with our new slates, wheels and T-shirts. Inevitably there was curry (lots) and beer (little! honestly John) and some very nice people with diving in common.  A great weekend despite the rain. Downside? - only that most of us have quite unpredictably signed up to the rescue diver course seduced by John's on-course discount plus a free T-shirt which means that we will have another good weekend diving. And yes, even if we hadn't been told it was not the greatest match, it was worth missing the Cup Final for. Thanks John, Mary and your team." Gordon
